What is Aloe Vera?

Aloe Vera, termed as the miracle plant, is a succulent plant that either has a short stem or none at all. For centuries, people have been using the gel-like substance from the Aloe Vera plant to treat illnesses and skin conditions. Aloe Vera is a part of the Xanthorrhoeaceae family and has characteristically thick and fleshy leaves. The plant produces drooping, yellow flowers in the summer that grown on a spike up to 2 feet tall. The plant is also known by the name ‘Single Bible’ or ‘Sinkle Bible’ here in Jamaica. Aloe Vera is also very popular here as an ornamental plant and its succulent propertymakes it able to survive in areas where rainfall amounts are limited. How to use Aloe Vera?

Aloe Vera is commonly used to soften and treat skin conditions. To do this, simply break a leaf then apply the gel stored in the leaf to the face or area of skin which you are treating. The leaf can then be bandaged down and allowed to stay on the affected area for a prolonged period of time.
